About Us
FH4LIFE was inspired from the desire to work with young athletes, not only to build their field hockey skills, but to create an atmosphere where they can build friendships and focus on their overall health in a fun, competitive space. Joanne and Lisa love to play field hockey, are best friends, and put into practice what they teach to folks of all ages. They both have a passion for taking care of their bodies and minds and see this as such an important part of any successful sports program. Personally, they have integrated into their own lives and the lives of their student-athletes how to fuel their bodies and balance their mental & physical health through yoga and other mindfulness practices. They hope your child will love their experience with FH4LIFE and take away not only new skills and knowledge of the game – but develop new friendships and have a deeper appreciation of how their bodies and minds can help them to be successful on the field, in the classroom, and in their social interactions!
Goals for Players
Field Hockey 4 Life – We strive to integrate four things into our coaching:
Friendships – To build friendships through a sport we love to coach and continue to play! Our hope is that the players at FH4LIFE will also establish those relationships with their teammates and coaches as we set an example for them.
We have fostered lifelong friendships with our teammates from middle school, high school, college, and adult league play as well as with alumni of players we have coached.
Mindfulness – To mentally and physically prepare each student-athlete through mindfulness and yoga. With Lisa, a RYT200 and health teacher our hope is to share tools the student-athletes can use in times of stress whether on or off the field.
Nutrition – For the players to have a better understanding of how to nourish their minds and bodies through nutrition education with Joanne, RDN, FMNS. The importance of balancing one’s plate for competition; adequately hydrating; and pregame snacks/meals will be covered. We want to emphasize that food is fuel for these players to develop and grow physically and mentally. We also want to cultivate an environment where positive body image is encouraged.
Field hockey – Last but not least the knowledge of the game will be shared with the players through skills and drills as well as small-sided games. Both Lisa and Joanne have been playing since they were in middle school and continue to play with their own athletes in practice. They love the sport and that is why they coach. They want to share their passion for field hockey and give back to the sport that has helped to mold their own lives.
Our Mission
We believe that coaching field hockey is about more than just the goals you score and the saves you make. It is about supporting your teammates while finding joy in something you love. It is about finding success through competition and teamwork while developing relationships with friends and coaches that will last a lifetime. It is about equipping young student-athletes on and off the field by building confidence through being part of a team that will change their lives. We also believe that nutrition education and mindfulness are critical in the development of young, healthy athletes. Furthermore, it is about coaches who are knowledgeable in their sport who continue to learn and grow themselves and serve as role models that young student-athletes can relate to personally and athletically.
